20 May 2023 | Nanyang Girls’ High School
May 20, 2023—a date widely celebrated across Asia as “520 Day” or a day of expressing appreciation and love—Byte.sg leadership spent their morning spreading a different kind of passion: a love for community impact through technology.
Gathering at Nanyang Girls’ High School, Byte.sg participated in a centralized “Tech for Good” symposium organized by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA). The event brought together over 150 top-tier student leaders from the Infocomm Clubs of various Ministry of Education (MOE) institutions, including Raffles Institution, River Valley High School, and Nanyang Girls’ High School. This convention served as a strategic platform for these bright young minds to discover how non-profit organizations leverage modern technology to drive social equity across Singapore.
Showcasing Grassroots Innovation
As one of the select non-profit organizations invited by IMDA, Byte.sg took centre stage to share its operational blueprints. Wilson Chua, Byte.sg’s Head of Volunteer Management and Outreach, delivered a comprehensive presentation mapping out the organization’s active initiatives, such as the Void Deck Technology Labs (VDTL). He demonstrated how structured, community-based digital curricula directly uplift youth from less-advantaged backgrounds.
Following the plenary sessions, the engagement transitioned into a vibrant roadshow exhibition held at the school campus. The Byte.sg booth drew a steady stream of analytical and tech-savvy students eager to understand the mechanics of grassroots digital advocacy.
Activating the Next Generation of Tech Volunteers
The casual, deep-dive discussions between Byte.sg representatives and the students yielded exceptional results. Impressed by the tangible metrics and real-world impact of our programs, a significant number of these high-ability student leaders expressed a strong desire to transition from passive observers to active participants, signing up to join Byte.sg’s volunteer network.
By engaging with Singapore’s premier student infocomm talent, Byte.sg is not only expanding its current volunteer capabilities but is actively mentoring the future architects of the nation’s digital ecosystem.
