In late 2024, the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) launched a dynamic, 3-week nationwide series of digital technology roadshows. Designed to promote digital inclusion across generations, the festival invited Singaporeans of all ages to engage firsthand with modern technology through interactive and accessible public activations. As a proud recipient of the Digital for Life Movement & Fund, Byte.sg was honoured to be invited to anchor a showcase at the festival’s regional roadshow. The event provided a premier platform for Byte.sg to demonstrate how the fund’s support directly translates into high-impact, grassroots digital education.
Throughout the day, the Byte.sg pavilion welcomed a diverse crowd of curious participants, ranging from young children taking their first steps into software to seniors eager to understand modern technology.
The core feature of Byte.sg’s showcase was an interactive, hands-on introduction to computational thinking using Scratch, a block-based visual programming language. Guided by our volunteers, visitors were shown how to transition from tech consumers to tech creators. Within short, engaging sessions, participants learned the basic logic of programming and successfully designed and coded their own simple, playable video games.
The energy at the Bedok roadshow was palpable but the most rewarding outcome for the Byte.sg team was the overwhelming feedback from the community. Witnessing the immediate joy of creation, numerous participants and parents expressed a strong desire for more structured, in-depth technical courses.
This enthusiastic response serves as both a validation of our teaching methodology and a roadmap for future expansion. Byte.sg is actively exploring the development of longer-form community workshops to satisfy this growing public appetite for digital mastery.
This successful community outreach was made possible by the generosity of our volunteer coaches, who dedicated their Sunday morning to mentoring the public, and the vital support of the Digital for Life Movement & Fund.
Together, we are building a more digitally confident Singapore.
